Professor Leah F. Chanin is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and Mercer University School of Law. She is a member of the State Bar of Georgia. After practicing law for five years, she joined the faculty and became director of the law library of Mercer University School of Law. She assumed the status of professor emerita in 1992, after 28 years of service to the Law School.
In addition to serving as Law Library Director while at Mercer, Professor Chanin taught Law of Lawyering for many years, and was regarded by members of the Georgia Bar as an expert in professional ethics. She served as a member of the Georgia Code of Professional Responsibility Commission in 1985–1987, and as a member of the Advisory Opinion Board, State Bar of Georgia in 1986–1990.
Professor Chanin served as Dean Pro Tem of the Law School in 1986-1987. She was active in the American Association of Law Libraries and served as its president in 1982-1983. Professor Chanin is the author of Reference Guide to Georgia Legal Research and Legal History (1980) and Legal Research in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (1995). She also conceived of and served as general editor of Specialized Legal Research (1987). Professor Chanin has published numerous articles on ethics and professionalism as well as legal research and law librarianship.
