Michelle Hook Dewey joined Mercer University School of Law as the Law Library Director in January 2025. She had previously served s a Visiting Professor and as the Reference and Electronic Services Librarian for Mercer Law.
Dewey received her Master of Library & Information Science degree from the University of Illinois. She has a J.D. and an LL.M. in health law and policy from Southern Illinois University.
Prior to Mercer, Dewey had been the Legal Technologies Librarian and Associate Professor, Law Library for Georgia State. In that capacity Dewey taught legal research and legal technology courses within the college's innovation certificate program. Dewey also served as the Legal Research Services Manager for an Am. Law 100 firm, where she managed the firm's national research team; served as the content matter expert on a host of firm-led data management, data integration, and technology projects; and provided training for attorneys across the firm. Previously, Dewey had been a Law Reference Librarian & Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois where she taught introductory and advanced legal research courses, coached moot court, and facilitated library research services. Michelle Hook Dewey began her career as a reference assistant and teaching fellow at S.I.U. While there she was responsible for the design and teaching of an online legal research and writing course for SIU’s Masters of Legal Studies program, assisting with the instruction and development of hybrid law classes and providing in-depth reference and research assistance to faculty and students.
Michelle Hook Dewey is an active member of the law librarianship community and has served in leadership roles at the local, regional, and national level. Hook Dewey recently ended her term as an elected member of the Executive Board for the American Association of Law Libraries.
